Behind the Song

Good Love was written during a moment of frustration trying to figure out what I wanted out of this romantic relationship I'd been in for a while. Everything was complicated and messy but at the end of the day it is 'good love' and that is something worth holding onto. The song itself, co-written by a good friend Espy Magaña and myself and produced by GEO, came together so quickly and naturally. Going into production, I had an idea that i wanted this track to be a throwback to 70s dirty, Chicano soul music but keep it modern and current as well. Geo took that and ran with it and we ended up with something that felt fresh but still stayed true to myself and my sound.

ABOUT

Tona is a singer and songwriter born and raised in Los Angeles, California. She began playing classical violin at the age of 4 and since then has picked up the guitar, piano, various Mexican folk instruments and eventually singing. It was her time in Mexico as a child where she first fell in love with music. At the age of 18 she continued her music education at Berklee College of Music. Since then, she has gone on to perform with numerous LA based artists including Maya Jupiter, Aloe Blacc, Ozomatli and Quetzal. In 2017, Tona released her first solo project, Todo. During the writing and production process, it was important that Tona remain true to her Mexican roots while incorporating pop production. Her unique style of writing allows her to switch seamlessly between English and Spanish. Currently Tona is writing and performing in Los Angeles and hopes to continue to push the boundaries of Pop and Latin music.
